Natural deviations is a unique textured cast glass sculpture in amber, red and brown by the British artist Nina Casson McGarva. Casson McGarva firstly casts her glass in a flat mould where she introduces all of the beautifully detailed, scaled surface texture, all unique and to her distinct design. Her glass is then subjected to a second lower temperature firing to reheat it, allowing her to manipulate the flat form and coax, bend and support it into the final three-dimensional shape. Nina Casson McGarva was born in Gloucester in 1990, but grew up in a community of makers near Nevers, France. She trained at the Ecole Nationale du Verre Jean Monnet, a technical college for workers in crystal glass factories, and at the Glass and Ceramics Workshop on Bornholm, part of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
